Kentucky Registration Renewal

Your vehicle license plate/decal must be renewed each year. Generally, most plates expire in the birth month of the owner. The Kentucky Revenue Cabinet mails each vehicle owner a renewal notice listing the amount of property taxes and license fees due. It is the owner’s responsibility to renew, even if a reminder is not received. The notice is not needed to renew the plate/decal.

There are some plates that expire in months other than the owner’s birth month.

Vehicles or trailers that have March expirations:

  • Farm trucks
  • Motor Homes/recreational vehicles
  • Trailers
  • Weighted trucks (10,000-80,000 lbs.)

Vehicles that have handicap plates expire in July and personalized plates may expire in your birth month or December, depending upon the type.

The following documents are required to renew your registration:

  • Certificate of registration. A $3.00 charge could be added if you do not have your registration available.
  • Proof of insurance. While phones may have the ability to display proof of insurance, our office needs a printed copy that we can scan into our system. You may email us the image or have your insurance company fax or email us proof if you do not have access to your card, though a small fee will be added for printing or receiving a fax.
  • Payment of registration fees and property tax. Checks, cash and charge cards are accept; however, a $2.50 convenience fee is added to the total for the use of debit cards and 2.75 percent is added if a credit card it used.

Vehicles registration slip and proof of insurance on vehicle to be renewed must be presented to the county clerk or additional fees could be added.

You may also renew your vehicle registration online. And you may mail in your renewal to Crittenden County Clerk, 107 S. Main St., Ste. 203, Marion, KY 42064; or use our secure blue drop box outside the front doors of Crittenden County Courthouse. Be sure to include the $2.00 postage fee along with all necessary documents and your payment or your transaction cannot be processed.

Crittenden County Clerk’s Office accepts cash, business or personal checks, credit and debit cards, cashier’s checks and money orders for payment of most fees. A $2.50 convenience fee is added to the total for the use of debit cards and 2.75 percent is added if a credit card it used.
